I RECEIVED AN EMAIL TODAY FROM FRIENDS KEVIN AND HIS WIFE DOROTA. It was an appeal for money to support a young nurse in her education. It was a GoFundMe format that my friends helped set up. Not only that, the nurse lived in Tanzania, in Africa. They are dreadfully short of nurses over there: only one for every 27 patients.

I found this individual effort inspiring — to help a young person, who is not well off and living in another country. Despite the political confusion here in the USA over immigration, there are people in the USA who genuinely want to help disadvantaged people overseas.… More

Praying is good. Offering tangible help is good. Praying is easy. Offering and providing tangible help is harder. The following are some inspiring recent examples of tangible help that have come to my attention:

>>From my grand-daughter Morgan. Here are her own words: “Today God was really really speaking to me. I’ve kept $100 bill in my purse for weeks now. Something just told me not to deposit it in my account but to keep it in my wallet. I NEVER keep cash, ever! So this was unusual for me. Today at church we were informed of a homeless woman that was brought to church in the earlier service and they were taking donations to go towards her and other homeless people.… More

Last Saturday morning I received a request to help a neighbor.Well, not exactly a neighbor in my subdivision, but an acquaintance that I know from a home Bible study. First of all, the recent week of rain in New Mexico broke the worst two-year drought on record. Moreover, it caused caused local flooding. It was an extension of the rains which caused the terrifying floods along the Front Range in Colorado. The email request stated that sand needed to be cleaned out of Jerry’s back yard, and to bring a shovel.

I rolled up with my caramel latte, gloves and shovel around 8 am on a Saturday, and was surprised to see a bulldozer there. Around the back of the house, I was astonished to see about four feet of sand covering Jerry’s entire backyard.… More
