Fish Creek, Wisconsin is a tiny village pregnant with tourists in Door County – a finger of land that sticks out into Lake Michigan about a hundred miles north of Chicago.
FISH CREEK BEACH. I’m typing up my thoughts on my deck at 3 pm. Across the road is a beach. It’s not a man’s beach like in Australia with enormous waves crashing on miles of golden sand, and tanned surfer-hunks on the watch for rip tides.… More

A DOCTOR CALLED BRILLIANT. I awoke last Saturday to hear on the radio a doctor being interviewed on the New Dimensions program on NPR. He had written a memoir called “Sometimes Brilliant”, and I thought What an ego! But they explained that his last name was Brilliant, and that he had been a hippie in San Francisco. My next thought was Can anything good come out of the Haight-Asbury hippie movement?… More

In 1987 Michael Morton murdered his wife Chris in front of their young child, and was jailed for 25 years. Except that he didn’t do it. This disturbing story was the subject of an excellent CNN Film shown this week on national television, called “An Unreal Dream”.
In brief: • It was in Georgetown, Texas the wife was bludgeoned to death in her bed and in front of her three-year-old child after Michael had gone to work. • A blood-stained bandana was found in the backyard.
• The day before was Michael’s birthday and the family went out to eat. Later they agreed to have sex, but Chris fell asleep before this happened.… More
