The personal life of Tim Tebow….a tearjerker

The personal life of Tim Tebow….a tearjerker – In my book Hiking Toward Heaven, the coangel Michelle discusses the benefits of two old-fashioned virtues: humility and persistence. In the chapter about the challenging hike down the La Luz trail out of Albuquerque, the focus is on an amazing woman called Meme who exemplifies “Never give up” in a fairly accurate portrait of her real life.

A few days ago I received a press story about Tim Tebow, and guess what? It was about humility and persistence! The link comes by courtesy of Brian Schupp, a believer who I met in the beautiful town of Durango, Colorado. Thanks Brian.

Have your tissues handy, because it will make you cry. And if you are like me, it will inspire you to “Help someone to hope”, as the coangel Michelle urged us in the book.

Finally, some critics of Tebow quote the Bible: “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who is in secret will reward you openly”. One critic wrote “What part of Matthew 6:5-8 do you not understand?” Thoughtful reader: what is your opinion on this? Love to see your comment made in the blogsite.
“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14).

Thanks for the story – I’ve just read it on Monday morning as I get ready for the week, and it is so inspiring. Incidentally, Janet Albrechtsen wrote a piece in “The Australian” newspaper last week about Tebow. The Australian press is normally cynical, and other stories critical of Tebow have been prominent. Albrechtsen defended Tebow, saying that his apparent faults are that he is a believer, is a good living guy, is a virgin, is encouraging and a great role model. Yet the press often appears to idolize sports heroes that have made poor life choices. It was so refreshing to see an article that was objective and supportive of something that is good.

Thanks Neil for taking the time to add a comment: always interesting to hear what the Aussie press says about Christian believers. I think non-believers want excuses to dismiss Christian faith (so they don’t have to get personal with it), and with Tebow there are no excuses!

You were right, Ian…the article did bring tears to my eyes. Tim Tebow is truly an inspiring and humble man…may his walk with God and others that he helps, inspire us to do the same.

I had the same thought Joyce! Tebow seems almost too good to be true!

Great blog post Ian… interesting points about literal bible interpretation vs a more flexible interpretation. There is a lot to be learned in your points about humility. I saw Tim’s press conference after the game, lots of respect for the opposition. What stood out for me is that he said “anytime you can make a kids day is a good day and that is more important than winning the game” (referring to a kid who was excited to meet him before the game.)

I was disappointment to see the Broncos go out against the Patriots… I hope he gets another run next year. I am now going for the 49ers to beat the Ravens in the Superbowl.

Thanks Mike. Astonishing comment by Tim about the importance of helping a kid versus winning the game! I think its Patriots versus Giants in S’bowl.
