WHATS IN THIS BLOG: • What is helpless prayer? • Methods. • Examples.

Helpless prayer means when you are feeling helpless. Or desperate. It’s easy enough to pray when our emotions are normal. But what if we are so racked with anxiety that we can hardly think straight, let alone compose a spiritual prayer. Or maybe we can’t stop crying. What can we do then?… More

WHATS IN THIS BLOG: • My father and my brother • What did Jesus say about grace? • The astonishing life of footballer David Johnson (see two inserts)

MY FATHER AND MY BROTHER: This occurred many years ago. Early in the morning I found my father digging in the garden. His face was contorted and he was angrily turning over sod after sod.… More

This is a modern-day story about a pre-teenage boy who never knew his father, and whose mother was a drug addict. When she was incarcerated, the boy lived with his grandmother. But then she died. Other similarities are assigned reservations, land-rights issues, and high unemployment. I summarize below using her own words what happened to the woman on the train (you can read the full story by clicking on the link): • At the train station I managed to squeeze into the last carriage.… More

One evening this week, I was feeling sorry for myself. After visiting the dermatologist. I came home with two blood-red biopsy scars on my nose…about an inch apart. And a lot of allergies from the budding cottonwood trees meant I had to handle my runny nose with TLC. My nose looked gruesome after I ditched the band-aids. Dang it, despite this I am gonna go to the local church meeting.… More

I was in the mall walking around a store shopping, when I saw a cashier talking to a boy who couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The cashier said, “I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy this doll”. Then the little boy turned to the cashier and asked “Are you sure I don’t have enough money?” The cashier counted his cash once again and replied “You know that you don’t have enough money to buy the doll, my dear.” The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand.… More

“Write an essay on what you would like to change about your school or community”.This was the instruction from a teacher to my grand-daughter Kara. Here is what she wrote (bullet points are mine):

• “If I could change one thing about my community I would make a group for underprivileged or alienated people.… More
