What became of Tim Tebow?

WHATS IN THIS BLOG:
• Tim Tebow, what he’s been doing
• What he says about: How to deal with failure.
• What is a Christian identity?
• Tebow’s strange ketogenic diet.

TIM TEBOW GAINED FAME AND FOLLOWERS IN THE NFL (National Football League of the USA) a few years ago. For a full and inspiring back-story on Tebow, click here. He was a devout Christian and a great role-model, but this tended to polarize the football fans and commentators. But then he disappeared from the sporting scene, because no football team wanted him.

I turned on the TV recently, and there he was: being interviewed by Dr Oz. It was a totally respectful interview, which went from his football failure, to his switch to baseball, to the ketogenic diet he is on (you may have to scroll the tape forward to get past the cancer portion of the film). Two of the images below are taken from the video.

HERE IS A LIST OF SOME OF TIM’S WORDS FROM THE TV INTERVIEW:
• Your identity is bigger than what you do. E.g. if your identity is too wrapped in your job, and you get fired, you can lose your identity. However, if you get fired, you can still live with a larger purpose….. as a Christian, Tim takes his faith into every place in his life (i.e. he’s not a football player who’s a Christian, he’s a Christian who’s a football player).
• Tim’s father has given his entire life to helping others (e.g. orphans in foreign countries) who will never be able to do anything for him. His father now has Parkinson’s disease.

• When you are grounded in Jesus Christ, you don’t have to go through the highs and lows that the rest of the world goes through. You are grounded in faith, hope, and love. I’m grounded in something far bigger than what others may say about me.

• In my football career I’m thankful for the lows as well as the highs (a Heisman trophy, and two college national championships), because everyone I talk to can relate to the lows. That’s why I wrote my book, to encourage people who are going through the lows of life.
• My new book is called Shaken, and it’s about being discarded in the NFL. But all things work together for good.
• Understand what God says about you: You are created in love by love and for love to do amazing things. The God of this universe loves you and cares about you just as you are, and this trumps any failures, or criticisms from detractors.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL.
Tebow told Dr Oz about his diet. I couldn’t believe it. And neither could two young gals who came up to test a breakfast drink that Tebow made of coffee plus whipping cream plus almond milk plus butter. Then add to that English toffee stevia. The gals loved it!

His diet is 5% carbs, 20% protein, and the rest is fat (75%). It’s a ketogenic diet which means the fats pass straight through the body. On this diet, you eat fat and you burn fat, but the fat doesn’t make you fat. And you do lose weight because you don’t intake sugar.

LAST: Tim Tebow is trying out for the New York Mets baseball team this spring. Wouldn’t that be something if he gets to play baseball for a national team!

POST-SCRIPT:
The past two months have been a dark period for a close friend, Mary Ann who broke her back, and her daughter Staci who has been fighting cancer. I traveled over to Kansas to see where I could help, and my right hip gave out leading to a hip replacement. So I needed help too. All three of us were shaken in this period.

During this distressing time, I re-discovered how central was the Lord in my life. One of the Psalms that I read over and over was a tremendous source of comfort and strength (see a selection of verses below). I also want to publicly thank those of you who prayed and encouraged us again and again during this time….we are indebted to you.

The Gray Nomad
Probing the practices of Christian faith

I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord, and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up out of a horrible pit and out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.

Let all those that seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let such as love Your salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified! As for me, I am poor and needy, yet the Lord takes thought and plans for me. You are my help and deliverer. Oh my God, do not tarry! [Book of Psalms chapter 40].
