Astronomers reveal more about creation
“Do you know that the universe is expanding?” I asked.
“Yep” Cory replied, “All the galaxies are moving away from each other”. He took a sip of his caramel latte.
“Well, it’s now known that the expansion is accelerating” I added with a smile.
“Wow, I didn’t know that” he said scratching his cheek. His eyes gleamed. “How can it be accelerating, with the force of gravity trying to hold all the galaxies back……I would have thought the expansion would be slowing down”.
A sparrow fluttered down to the ground a few yards away, and pecked at the grass looking for seeds.
“That’s exactly what a lot of astronomers thought too”, I answered. “They don’t actually know what the energy is that drives the expansion to accelerate”. I threw a piece of my biscotti to the sparrow. “So they call it dark energy. They think it’s everywhere throughout the universe, but they don’t have a clue what it is”.
“That’s incredible” Cory added, gazing at the sparrow trying to break the biscotti into smaller pieces. “It reminds me of Psalm 8: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established; What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
We stayed still for a few moments, reflecting on the depth of these inspired words.
“Your book touched on the awesomeness of creation a little”, Cory stated, “When the coangel Michelle talks about exotic flowers which the Lord made for humans to enjoy”.
“Yes, creation is awesome, no matter on what scale you consider it”.

As you know I am the curious sort. And I don’t know physics from psychology. However, I’m thinking that perhaps the fact that everything is accelerating might be due to the pull of gravity lessens the further from the gravitational source, and when that happens, the force that was used close in, even if stayed the same, when not held by the lessening gravitational pull would surely increase in speed. I’m thinking of rubber bands, here. Hey, do you get and read “Reasons to Believe” by Dr. Hugh Grant? He is a PhD Astrophysicist. You can also get an iPhone app from his organization. He is a wealth of information, but sometimes so deep I just don’t have time to read it. You would find it very interesting, I’m sure!

This is the first time for me to make a comment because I have been lazy in doing so but I truly do get excited when I find out there is a new blog to read. Thanks for the discussion on character. When I was in high school in Jamestown in 1969, the headmaster (Colin Brideson) used to teach us: “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny”.
Thanks Neil…..that’s a thoughtful quote with some real depth in it, and a contrast to this day and age when character does not seem to be valued much.
